Around 2 pm on Saturday March 22nd the Miesville Fire Department was paged for a grass fire near Dakota Circle in Welch Township.
Shortly after the page, the fire spread at a fast rate threatening nearby homes. It was upgraded to a structure fire response and additional resources from Red Wing Fire Department, Cannon Falls Fire Department, and Hastings Fire Department were paged.
First arriving units found a house on fire and the grass fire spreading towards other homes.
Other resources arriving were assigned to grass fire operations as three additional homes were threatened with active fires in the yards of residences. The grass fire spread to a corn field to the west and south of the neighborhood and a tree line to the south of the involved structure.
By 4 pm the brush and grass fires were under control.
There were no fire personnel injuries and the two individuals inside of the home at the time of the fire were treated and released by Red Wing Medics.
The home and garage were a total loss. Minor property damage occurred at nearby residences.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but preliminary reports suggest an unattended brush fire spread to the neighbor’s lawn was the cause of the fires.
