As the temps are starting to cool and ice is starting to form, the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office reminds people please be aware when venturing out on ice.
Within the next couple of weeks, the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant will be discharging a heat load to the Mississippi River. By month's end, both units at the plant are scheduled to be online.
When the plant begins to discharge its heat load in the next couple of weeks this may cause ice that has formed to thin and break up.
With the safety of the community as our top priority, we advise people to be cautious if planning winter activities on or around the river water in the area.
