Text Message EZ Pass Scam

Greg Taylor

The Wabasha Police Department is warning area residents of the latest text scam.

The newest one that has been seen is Text Messages about a fee for EZ pass. Scammers are sending fake messages claiming that individuals have an invoice, violation, or bill related to Minnesota E-ZPass.

The Department says they have noted different email adresses most have had MN in it. MN does not have tolls.

MnDOT officials emphasize that they will never contact you via email or text message to request payment or personal information.

As always if you have any concerns about a phone call that you recieve, a letter that you get, an email, or text message please reach out to law enforcement before sending money or releasing any information.

Unfortunately once money has been sent there is almost a 0% chance it can be recovered.
