The Minnesota Timberwolves embarrassed themselves for the third game in a row during a 112-97 loss to the Denver Nuggets in Game Five of the Western Conference Semifinals at Ball Arena. The Wolves had a two-point lead in the third quarter before Denver took complete control, leading by as many as 18 points. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 23 points, while Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert each finished with 18. The Wolves trail 3-2 in the best-of-seven series. Game Six is in Minnesota tomorrow night.
The Minnesota Twins dropped their series opener against the New York Yankees 5-1 at Target Field. Ryan Jeffers hit a lead-off home run to give Minnesota an early lead before New York struck for five unanswered runs. Chris Paddack was charged with his second loss after allowing five runs on 12 hits in five innings. Minnesota is in second place in the AL Central at 24-and-17. The Twins send Pablo Lopez to the mound against the Yankees tonight. In other team news, Byron Buxton will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul today.
The Minnesota Lynx opened up their 2024 season with an 83-70 win over the Seattle Storm at Climate Pledge Arena. Minnesota held a three-point lead heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring the Storm 20-10 the rest of the way. Alanna Smith led the way with 22 points, while Napheesa Collier added 20 points and 12 rebounds in the victory. The 1-and-0 Lynx take on the Storm at home on Friday.
