Severe Weather Awareness Week

Greg Taylor

Severe Weather Awareness Week in Minnesota and Wisconsin is coming up this week, April 8-12 and tornado sirens across both states will be tested next week as part of the state's annual tornado drill.

Todd Shea, Meteorologist in Charge for the National Weather Service in La Crosse, says tornado drills for both states are scheduled to occur at 1:45pm and 6:45pm on Thursday, April 11.

The drill gives Minnesotans a chance to review their emergency plans and practice what they would do in the event of an actual tornado.

NWS La Crosse will initiate the drills through the following means: NOAA Weather Radio -- drill will be sent as Required Weekly Test (RWT) with normal alert tones followed by drill verbiage ·  Social Media · and NWS La Crosse Spotter Activation Notification System test (only at 1:45pm)

Shea says Storm Spotter Training is vital to know what conditions are in real time.

Storm Spotter Training in Wabasha County will be held Wednesday, April 10th from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at the Plainview-Elgin-Millville Elementary School, 600 West Broadway, Plainview.
