Severe Weather Awareness Week


This is Severe Weather Awareness Week for Minnesota and Wisconsin.


The Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) Division of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and the National Weather Service collaborate to educate and inform about the potential for severe weather in Minnesota and how you can be prepared for it.


Each day of the week focuses on different topics.

  • Monday: Alerts and Warnings

  • Tuesday: Severe Weather, Lightning and Hail

  • Wednesday: Floods

  • Thursday: Tornadoes (with statewide tornado drills)

  • Friday: Extreme Heat


Take special note that statewide tornado drills will be conducted at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 20.
