RiseUp Red Wing Youth Shoe Drive

Greg Taylor

You still have time to help a local non profit in their fundraising efforts.

RiseUp Red Wing supports local youth through programming including mentoring, life skills training, and youth leadership and they are holding a Shoe Drive through Friday to help those in need.

Alyvia Xiong, who first started with RiseUp Red Wing as a youth advocate and mentor and is now in her first year of college helping the group through AmeriCorps, says money raised stays local.

She says they are working with Funds2org, the nation's largest shoe drive fundraising company. They pay non-profits a percentage for their shoe drives and then they send them to developing nations.

Donate your new or gently worn shoes through Friday to make a difference. There are bins at the YMCA, Riverbluff Education Center, Red Wing Shoe Offices, Family Fare, Red Wing Elks Lodge, and Sunnyside Elementary.

Xiong says RiseUp Red Wing’s Community Youth Council empowers youth voices and providing leadership and involvement opportunities, including collaborating with a lobbyist to create a Minnesota state legislative policy agenda and provide testimony on bills.
