The vision to have Red Wing's Riverfront Trail connect the entire city along the Mississippi River is one phase closer to completion.
In a 5-2 vote, City Council last Monday night approved building a unique trail connecting He Mni Can-Barn Bluff Regional Park to Colvill Park.
The trail will travel through wildlife and an eagle-watching area and will allow residents and visitors to walk or bike easily between two of Red Wing's large, beautiful parks.
The project has been 10 years in the making, and most of it is funded by federal grants and generous, local philanthropic donations from the Riverlands Foundation, the Evelyn Sweasy Charitable Trust, the Red Wing Area Fund, and the Robert and Carolyn Hedin Family Fund.
City Councils over the last decade have also been saving money for this specific trail for years. Trail work will start this spring.
