The Red Wing Public Schools District made a few adjustments this past September to their policy on students' cell phone usage after determining smartphones have become a distraction.
Superintendent Bob Jaszczak, says the students in the High School have been doing a good job keeping their phones silent and out of sight during class.
Jaszczak says younger kids should not be using any device during class, cell phone or not.
The goals of the new policy are to: increase student engagement and improve student learning, increase social interaction and decrease distractions.
The 2024 Minnesota Legislature passed a law that requires school districts adopt a policy on students’ possession and use of cell phones by March 15, 2025.
