Red Wing Possible New Law Enforcement Center

Greg Taylor

The Red Wing Police Department is currently exploring several options to expand at a new location.

Police Chief, Nick Sather, spoke to residents of the Downtown Plaza Monday to gather input on the possibility of a new law enforcement building.

Sather says they and the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office currently share a building on West Sixth Street downtown and they are running out of space. The selected site is near Menards and Alliance Bank on Tyler Road.

Chief Sather says lack of room is causing problems with everything from having to park squad cars outside, full of required equipment, to having the available rooms to interview suspects, like the ones arrested in the recent major drug bust in town

The Red Wing Police Department’s lease with the Law Enforcement Center is currently set to expire in 2027.

An estimated cost of a new LEC is between 24 and $28-million, but Sather says that cost could drop as the planning and discussions continue.
