The Red Wing Fire Department received a call Friday at 7:44 am reporting smoke inside a school in the 400 block of East Ave, Red Wing.
Upon arrival at St. John’s Lutheran School, firefighters found smoke and ungraded the alarm to a structure fire response. The school was evacuated prior to the fire departments arrival.
Firefighters were on the scene within one minute of receiving the call and found a burnt blower motor in the heating system creating the smoke in the building.
Initial activities included searching the area and Firefighters worked with the staff to isolate the unit to ensure there was no further problem spreading smoke to the rest of the school.
The scene was turned over to school officials and classes resumed as normal. There were no injuries reported.
Firefighters worked at the scene for approximately one hour. Goodhue County Sheriffs Dispatch, as well as Red Wing Police, assisted.
Red Wing Fire Department units were already engaged in one emergency medical call at the time of dispatch for this incident.
