Red Wing Fire Department Disclaiming Political Affiliation

Greg Taylor

The Red Wing Fire Department released a statement Monday after finding out they had been used in a political campaign ad.

The statement reads in full:

“The Red Wing Fire Department is founded on mutual trust and respect between the Firefighters and the community we serve. A photo of the Red Wing Fire Department was included in a candidate's political advertisement mailer and distributed to residents in the area.

The Department received questions about why the photo appeared in a political mailing. The Red Wing Fire Department is not affiliated with any political party, nor do we endorse candidates.

Rather, the Fire Department represents the entire community we serve. We appreciate the support that all elected officials show towards public safety efforts.

The Red Wing Fire Department reminds our community that we are committed to helping anyone in need. We provide exceptional fire suppression, advanced medical care, technical rescue, disaster management, fire prevention, and public education. We focus on operational readiness, department unity, professionalism, and community engagement.’’

The statement did not mention what campaign the ad belonged to.
