Red Wing 2025 Preliminary Levy

The 2025 preliminary levy was approved by the Red Wing City Council in a 4-1 vote Monday night, but the budget discussion is far from over.

The preliminary levy is the ceiling – the very top amount that could be allowed.

For now, that amount is set at a 7% increase over 2024.

Under that preliminary proposal, the average-value home in Red Wing would see a $5 annual increase in property taxes.

Council member Ron Goggin cast the lone no vote, saying a 7% increase is too large. Council members Becky Norton and Don Kliewer were absent.

Over the next few weeks, City Council and City staff will continue refining the budget to get to a final percent, which will be voted on in December.

The community is invited to attend and join in on the discussion when it resumes on October 7 at the next budget workshop.
