The bald eagle is set to finally become America's national bird following an effort led by Minnesota's congressional delegation.
Ed Hahn of the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, says it's about time. ""Here we are for over 240 years. Probably just about every American you would ask, including those of us here at the National Eagle Center, just assumed that it was the national bird when, in fact, it was not."
A bill finally giving the bald eagle that official status passed the House late Monday and has been sent to President Biden for his signature. The bald eagle has been on the Great Seal of the United States since 1782.
Hahn says the bald eagle is a major symbol of the U.S.
Preston Cook, whose eagle memorabilia collection is housed at the National Eagle Center, and who discovered the bald eagle isn't the national bird while writing a book, says supporters of the effort see more than a bird.
