PEM School Board members on April 14 heard information regarding a proposal to move sixth-grade students to the 7-8 building in Elgin next fall.
According the Plainview News, fourth-and fifth-graders would remain at the current 4-6 building in Elgin.
The shift is being considered “as part of our ongoing efforts to provide the best educational experience for all students,” interim schools superintendent Erick Enger wrote in an email to parents and patrons.
PEM 4-6 and 7-8 principal Clark Olstad said “It’s just time to have this discussion,”, adding that he believes sixth-graders are ready for such a move and there’s space for them at the 7-8 building, among other benefits.
Olstad presented information to the School Board regarding PEM student enrollment, benefits of sixth-graders moving to the 7-8 building, negative impacts, other benefits, and academic courses.
