Minnesota Colleges $450K Food Security Grants

Twenty-four colleges campuses across Minnesota are getting nearly 450 thousand dollars to help address food insecurity among students.

Grants were awarded to both public and private schools across the state, including 4 in SE Minnesota.

Minnesota State College Southeast is receiving a Sustaining Designation Grant of $15,000.

Rochester Community and Technical College gets a pair of grants: a $15,000 Sustaining Designation Grant and an Equipment Grant for $11,323.

Saint Olaf College in Northfield a Pathways to Designation Grant: $11,800 and a $2,714 Equipment Grant.

Winona State University is receiving a Pathways to Designation Grant for $25,000.

Keith Hovis with the Office of Higher Education says the issue is mostly among off-campus students who no longer are on a meal plan.  He says, “we know that 37 percent of Minnesota college students say that they’ve faced food insecurity in the last 30 days.”
