Goodhue County is kicking off the 2025 Mighty Mississippi Clean Up Challenge, between April 15th and May 15th.
The challenge, extended to all Minnesota counties, cities, and community members located on the Mississippi River, or a river that leads into the Mississippi, will aid in tackling the growing river pollution.
Three years ago, Goodhue County Commissioner Linda Flanders helped produce a “Mighty Mississippi Cleanup” effort at Co. Rd. 18 and Sturgeon Lake Road after complaints from Welch residents.
Flanders says the event has grown each year.
This year’s cleanup at Co. Rd. 18 and Sturgeon Lake Road will be held Saturday, April 26th from 9-11 am.
Flanders says she is hoping the Cleanup Challenge will spur communities along the river to join in with their own efforts.
The Mississippi River is #6 on the United States most endangered river’s list.
