Red Wing Aces 5 Hastings Hawks 0-The Aces scored all five of their runs in the sixth inning and Aaron Johnson dominated on the mound in their victory Wednesday night at the Red Wing Athletic Field.
Johnson and Ben Teigland, the Hawks starting pitcher, were locked in a pitcher's duel through five innings. The Aces finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tegland started the inning by hitting Dixon Irwin and Reid Hartmann with pitches. Adam Thygesen had an rbi single to plate the first run and Lou De Jong added an rbi single to make it 2-0. Teigland hit Tyler Rodgers with a pitch to load the bases. Brendan Kruger came on to pitch and Brodie Smith had a fielder's choice rbi ground out. Zach Harding and Marcus Walm followed with back to back rbi singles to close out the five run uprising.
Aaron Johnson shut down the Hastings batters all night long. "The Big Unit" threw 109 pitches, tossing a complete game four hit shut out with 13 strike outs and no walks. Johnson lowered his ERA on the season to 1.03 and has 82 strike outs in 52 1/3 innings pitched on the year.
The Aces are 14-10 on the season and have clinched the #1 seed for CCVL teams in the upcoming Region 5C playoffs.
Red Wing hosts Stewartville-Racine Friday at the Athletic Field on United Way Stuff The bus Night. The pre-game show is at 7:15pm with the game at 7:30pm on Bluff Country 1250 KCUE/KCUE 99FM and streamed at www.kcueradio.com. The Aces also have a home game at 3pm Saturday agaginst the North St. Paul Snowmen.
