Highway 61 CP Railway Delays

Highway 61 motorists may experience brief traffic delays on Monday, April 28 at the Canadian Pacific Railway south of Red Wing while crews finish the final layer of paving, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

During the paving operation, motorists will be stopped by flaggers at each end to allow vehicles to take turns in traveling through the construction zone.

If weather is too wet, the paving work will be completed on Tuesday, April 29.

Permanent striping and the grinding of the pavement markings is scheduled to be completed May 8, weather permitting. Motorists would again experience delays while crews complete this work.

Work in 2024 included demolition of the old bridge, paving, sign placement and striping.

The Highway 61/Golf Links Drive intersection was shifted roughly 500 feet to the northwest to allow for a new left turn lane to be constructed.

A new left turn lane was constructed at the Wylie Wilson Trucking entrance.

A new continuous left turn lane was constructed to provide a turn lane for the USG and Cemstone entrances.
