BOYS BASKETBALL:

STATE CLASS AA CHAMPIONSHIP:

Breck 76 Lake City 72-The Tigers fell to the Mustangs in the State Class AA championship game Saturday night at Williams Arena.


Lake City (26-6) battled top-seeded Breck (31-1) from start to finish and led 47-46 in the second half before Breck went on an 18-5 run to take a 64-52 lead with seven minutes left in the game. Lake City battled back and trailed 74-72 and had a chance to tie or win the game in the final seconds but turned the ball over on an in bounds play. Breck's Daniel Freitag, a University of Wisconsin recruit, was fouled and made two free throws with two seconds left to put the game away for Breck.


Freitag poured in 33 points to lead the Mustangs. Miles Newton added 16 points and DeAngelo Dungey 12.


Lake City had five players in double figures with Hunter Lorenson leading the way with 19 points. Rylee Fick had 15 points. Keegan Ryan had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jaden Shones added 12 points and Josh Wohlers 11. Lake City outrebounded Breck 38-28 and shot 56% from the floor to Breck's 42%. Turnovers were difference as Lake City had 20 while Breck had 8.


Hunter Lorenson, Rylee Fick and Jaden Shones of Lake City were named to the Class AA All-Tournament team.


STATE CLASS A CONSOLATION ROUND:

Heritage Christian Academy 68 Goodhue 54-The Wildcats fell to Eagles in the Class A consolation semi-finals Friday afternoon at Concordia University.


Goodhue led 29-27 at the half and but went cold from the floor in the second half. Goodhue was only down 57-54 with three minutes left but were forced to foul the rest of the way and the Eagles scored the last 11 points of the game from the free throw line to pull away for the win. The Eagles were 26-35 from the free throw line while Goodhue was 6-9.




Alex Loos led Goodhue with 18 points and Luke Roschen added 15.


Goodhue finishes the season with an 18-15 record and loses only a handful of seniors to graduation with all of their top scorers returning for next season and beyond.
