Boys Basketball:


It was a tremendous day and night for area boys high school basketball teams around the area Saturday.

TIGERS, BOMBERS ADVANCE IN 1AA

Section 1AA Semi-Final games at the Rochester Mayo Civic Auditorium saw Lake City begin the day with a 63-46 win over Zumbrota-Mazeppa.


Keegan Ryan led the Tigers with 23 points while Hunter Lorenson added 20. Carter Christopherson led Zumbrota-Mazeppa with 13 points as the Cougars ended their season with an 18-11 record.


Lake City is now 23-5. The top seeded Tigers face HVL rival Cannon Falls for the Section 1AA championship Thursday at 8pm with the pre-game show at 7:45pm on KLCH Lake Hits 95 and on-line at www.lakehits95.com from the Mayo Civic Center Arena.


#3 seed Cannon Falls advanced in the second 1AA semi-final with a thrilling 82-81 win over #2 seed Caledonia.


The Warriors Mason King hit a three point basket with 4.5 seconds to play to put Caledonia up 81-80. The Bombers called time out and Dylan Banks took the inbounds pass, dribbled the length of floor and hit a lay up at the buzzer to give Cannon Falls the incredible win.


Aiden Johnson led Cannon Falls with 23 points while Dylan Banks added 20. Jack Meyers and Gavin Johnson added 16 points apiece for the Bombers.


Cannon Falls takes a 24-5 record into Thursday's Section 1AA championship game with Lake City. The teams split their two regular season HVL games with each team winning on their home court.

WILDCATS CONTINUE RUN IN SECTION 1A

Section 1A Semi-Finals followed with #1 seed Blooming Prairie edging #5 seed Kingsland 74-72. The Awesome Blossoms are now 29-2.


The final game of the day the the Auditorium saw the the #6 seed Goodhue Wildcats pull away in the second half for a 86-66 win over the #7 seed Fillmore Central.


Goodhue led 37-34 at the half but wore down the Falcons in the second, hitting 17 of 21 free throw attempts in the second half and outscoring Fillmore Central after the break.


8th grader Alex Loos led Goodhue with 27 points, hitting six three pointers along the way. Luke Roschen added 25 points and Michael Roschen 15 for Goodhue. Luke Hellickson led Blooming Prairie with 24 points.


Goodhue take s 17-13 record into Thursday's game against #1 seed Blooming Prairie at 6pm with the pre-game show at 5:45pm on KWNG 106 and on-line at www.kwng.com from the Mayo Civic Center Arena.

PRESCOTT TO STATE IN WIAA BOYS HOOPS

The Prescott Cardinals topped Gale-Ettrick-Trempeleau 63-48 Saturday at Eau Claire Memorial High School to win the Division 3- Section 1 championship.


Prescott is the #4 seed at state and faces #1 seed St. Thomas More in the Division 3 State Semi-Finals Thursday at 1:35pm at the Kohl Center in Madison.


A Cardinals win moves them into the Division 3 championship game Saturday afternoon against the winner of the Kiel vs. Lakeside game.

GOODHUE GIRLS #1 SEED AT STATE THIS WEEK

The Goodhue Wildcats are the #1 seed in Class A in the Girls State High School Basketball Tournament.


Goodhue, the Section 1A champs at 25-5, face unseeded Mayer Lutheran, the Section 4A champs with a 19-10 record in the Class A Quarterfinals at Maturi Pavillion.


The game is Thursday at 11am with the pre-game show at 10:40am on KWNG 106 and on-line at www.kwng.com.


A Goodhue win sends them onto the Class A Semi-Finals Friday at 12pm at Williams Arena against either Southwest Minnesota Christian or Underwood. A first round loss puts Goodhue into the Class A Consolation bracket Friday at 10am at the Gengelhoff Center at Concordia University in St. Paul against the loser of the Southwest Minnesota Christian and Underwood game.
