The Hastings Fire Department has released an update in regards to the fire they responded to last night.
The Department were called to a reported fire at the Hastings Creamery at 1701 Vermillion Street at 10:34 p.m.
Upon arrival, flames and heavy smoke were observed from the main building. Hastings Fire requested mutual aid assistance from the following fire departments; Miesville, Rosemount, Cottage Grove, Newport, St. Paul Park, Prescott and Randolph-Hampton. No one was on site or injured during the fire. The Creamery was currently not in operation.
In addition, the Dakota County Special Operations Team, Allina Health, MHealth, State Patrol, Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, State Fire Marshal and the Hastings Police Department assisted with this incident.
The community was made aware via Everbridge to remain indoors due to the heavy smoke in the area. Multiple air samples were taken around the community and were clear of harmful chemicals.
The fire has been completely extinguished and Vermillion Street (Hwy 61) is open for both northbound and southbound traffic. Community members can open their windows and turn on any air exchange systems at this time as there are no threats to the public.
This will remain an active investigation with the State Fire Marshal, Hastings Fire and Hastings Police Department
