Children Rescued Cannon Falls Fire

The Cannon Falls Police Department, Cannon Falls Fire Department and Cannon Falls Ambulance responded to a call of an apartment fire at Cannon Valley Apartments on the 1200 block of First St. N. with children trapped inside around 1:14 pm Wednesday.

Residents had evacuated the building, including an adult female who said her three children were inside the apartment.

Officers initially broke the second bedroom window and living room windows to get into the apartment as the first bedroom was fully engulfed.

Three children were rescued from the apartment by emergency personal and were taken by ambulance to the hospital and later were flown by helicopter to Regions Hospital Burn Center.

The mother also sustained an arm injury while trying to get the children out of the apartment and was transported to the hospital.

Officials updated the condition of the children around noon today. The children have been stabilized and placed into a medically induced coma and are being treating in the burn unit.

Firefighters got the fire under control and evacuated the building.

All 12 units in the apartment complex were displaced and the American Red Cross is assisting those displaced.

Cannon Falls Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
