Representatives of Bluewater Farms Hatchery gave a brief recap Wednesday over lunch to local business leaders and other community members on a proposed walleye farm.
The project would be built on city owned property at the junction of Highways 61 and 19 and involve not only a walleye hatchery but also aquaponics plants products.
Dean Dovolis, Principal-CEO, says they have already gotten a lot of local support for the sustainable project that would bring 30 jobs to the area initially. Dovalis says the clock is time is of the essence on getting things started.
Dovolis says other communities have reached out to them after hearing Red Wing’s Port Authority and City Council have not yet asked for a full presentation about the project.
The Port Authority has estimated it would cost roughly a half million dollars to demolish the former Central Research building, Dovolis says they want to include the building in the purchase agreement but the steps need to move forward no later than next month.
Dovolis says they hope to give the Port Authority and/or the City Council a full presentation soon.
