Area residents gathered Sunday, Feb. 2 at American Legion Post 179 in Plainview to honor Leonard Wilde, who turned 100 last week.
The Plainview News reports the place was packed.
Dozens of well-wishers stopped by to say hello to this beloved Korean War veteran, who has been a Legion member for 71 years.
The big day included lunch provided by Bennett’s Food Center and Catering, a presentation honoring Leonard for his years with the Legion - and, of course, a birthday cake, and a rousing chorus of ‘Happy Birthday.’ His fans left an extra-large stack of birthday cards.
Minnesota’s State Legion Department Commander, Dr. Carl Moon, presented Leonard with a proclamation of appreciation, recognition for his years of contributions, and best wishes.
Leonard said he enjoys life at the Legion, a place he probably knows better than anyone else. “It’s a good place to hang out and meet a lot of friends,” Leonard said.
